Pre-orders now being accepted for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge coming this February

Image
Before anything else, I want to let you know that only 1,000 units of the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will be made available for pre-ordering till February 15 so if you have been waiting for this beauty, this is the time to place your order. I was able to hold the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge some time back when I got hold of the unit of my friend, Art Samaniego. Art always had first dibs on most of the new gadgets that come into the marketplace and at a blogger event, he gladly made me hold and admire the Note Edge.

Samsung launches its A Series smartphones

Image
Valkyrie, a swanky new nightclub nestled in the still-to-be-fully-developed Uptown Parade section of Bonifacio Global City, was the scene of the launch recently of Samsung's A series of smartphones -- the A3, A5 and A7 smartphones. This is the perfect kind of phone for me - the A7 - big screen but light & still easy to hold

Samsung presents its fully automatic washing machines

Image
Most people know the basics of doing the laundry. The first thing I learned was to separate the coloreds from the whites. All my kids know that as well as it was the first thing I taught them when they went overseas. Other tips I follow are hand washing my delicates instead of throwing them in the wash, putting socks in netted bags so they don't get separated, and pre-soaking and scrubbing stained garments before a wash cycle. But there are other factors and they have an impact on your choice of washing machine. * Did you know that the longer the boosting time of the machine, the more energy it uses? And of course, the more energy used, the more expensive it is for you. * Did you know that the higher the temperature of the wash cycle, the more energy is wasted too? * Did you know that too much mechanical action can damage fabrics? * And lastly, did you know that too much detergent leaves residue that could damage fabrics? In addition, when that is flushed down the drain, ...

A Bonding Moment with a Sibling and Samsung's UHD Curved TV

Image
I don't always get to meet my married sister. We are both busy with our individual families. Besides that, we live in opposite sides of town. So when I had a chance to stay at Makati Shang for one night, she was the first person I called to ask if she had time to go on an overnight with me. She was free! We began with a lunch at nearby Glorietta, then checked into the hotel a little past 4pm. As soon as we entered the room, I got a very pleasant surprise. Not only did we have a king-sized bed and a fruit tray but the room was transformed into a mini home theater room!   My arm span isn't even enough to measure the width of this 78-inch screen!

Samsung Galaxy K zoom - a camera-specialized smartphone

Image
In a digital world where the smartphone is used more and more for selfies and photo uploads on social media, not all smartphone cameras cut it anymore. Samsung has now launched a camera-specialized smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy K zoom that blends advanced digital camera technology with a Galaxy smartphone. How the Galaxy K zoom looks with lens recessed Opening the Camera app automatically activates the zoom lens' protrusion

Samsung's Industry Business Solutions Center recently unveiled

Image
This is a heads-up for industries in the healthcare, retail/hospitality, education and office/banking/finance industries. Samsung just recently unveiled their new Industry Business Solutions Center located at Campus Avenue, McKinley Hill. Bringing together Samsung's products and software that build on convergence, current digital technology and productivity, the center is a showcase of all the possibilities that these industries can now avail of. I joined a tour around the Industry Business Solutions Center and here is what is already available. The Center greets visitors with a huge video wall which can show individual windows, each showing a different set of information, or it can become one huge wall showing an enlarged view of a map, traffic situation, weather information or anything else. Video walls are very good in what many refer to as "war rooms" -- those centers that are used for disaster monitoring, strategy mapping, command centers.

Samsung unveils the world's first curved UHD TV

Image
The backdrop of the launch was as theatrical and exciting as the products being introduced. From a modern family setting that featured different ways of enjoying the 2014 product lineup of Samsung in family entertainment, we were treated to a Roman gladiator performance at the Blue Leaf event hall, where Samsung unveiled another world first - the Samsung Curved UHD TV . This angle really shows the curvature of the UHD TV

Samsung launches its PRO Series with two variants

Image
For my bad eyes, BIG is BETTER. That's exactly what the PRO series by Samsung Galaxy featured when it launched the 12.2" Galaxy Note PRO and the 8.4" Galaxy Tab PRO . Both variants boast of a WQXGA display with 4 million pixels for crisp, vibrant color display. The Galaxy Note PRO is HUGE!!! At 12.2" of screen real estate that is less than an inch shy of my 13" Macbook Air's screen! It runs on an Octacore processor and has an 8mp rear camera and a 2mp front camera. It comes ready with 32GB internal storage, upgradable to 64GB with a memory card. It runs on a 9500 mAh battery. Wow, really powerful. I'd need to upgrade all my power banks if I had this one! And of course, like the Note 3 smartphone and the Note 10.1 tablets, the Galaxy Note PRO has the S-Pen and the same features. What a wide, wide, wide screen area! Because it is that big, the Multi-Window feature is really neat to work with -- imagine 4 windows open simultaneously without putti...

Collaboration on the cloud with the partnership of PLDT SME Nation and Samsung Electronics

Image
The tarp at the event read “ Today, only 14% of Filipino small to medium enterprises have an online presence. By 2016, 75% will be online. ” A very bold prediction indeed. But who says it isn’t possible when the event was meant to announce the solid partnership of PLDT SME Nation and Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) to bring future-ready solutions for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). PLDT First Vice President and Head of SME Nation, Ms. Kat Luna-Abelarde), told those present that the synergistic partnership with Samsung meant offering an array of high-speed myDSL Biz broadband packages and flexible cloud bundles combined with Samsung’s newer gadgets.

PSHS Launches its First Samsung Smart Classroom

Image
As a geeky parent who has experienced just how heavy school bags can get (and they weigh a ton!), I totally embrace the growing concept of shrinking school material into ebooks and portable devices such as tablets. So when I got an invitation to the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Samsung's first smart classroom in the main campus of Philippine Science High School (PSHS) , I did not hesitate to say yes. After all, PSHS is where you'd find some of the country's most gifted student-scientists who are well known for their skills in math, science and technology. At the Advanced Science Technology Building, one of PSHS's main campus classrooms was renovated completely to house a fully digital and interactive learning environment filled with the latest in Samsung's technology solutions for learning. Not only did Samsung provide the hardware inside this classroom but they also provided the software platform upon which the learning tools ran.   Plaque right outside t...

Listen to Superior Sound on the Go with Samsung's DA-F61 Bluetooth Speaker

Image
It's no longer a novelty to be able to carry music around with you. We see it everywhere. All smartphones have music players that let us carry our entire music collection around with us. But the quality of sound leaves so much to be desired, especially if you want to share your music with others. Enter Samsung's DA-F61 bluetooth speaker which was introduced recently.   Weighing in at 1.1kg, this bluetooth speaker is a powerhouse. It's only 225 x 131 x 46.5mm in dimension. It's a bit bulky for a bag or laptop bag but it will fit well as a boom box in your car or atop a cabinet at home.

Samsung Unpacked Episode 2 Presents the Note 3, the Galaxy Gear, and the Note 10.1 2014 Edition

Image
Last night, we stayed up till the wee hours of the morning watching the Berlin Samsung Unpacked 2013, Episode 2. The launch of 3 devices was witnessed by a throng of people at Times Square in New York who gathered to watch the livestream together with the rest of the world. I was with a bunch of tech bloggers and avid Samsung users at a Makati hotel gathered around a wide screen Samsung TV. Over coffee (to keep us awake) and some midnight snacks, we talked about different Samsung mobile phones and their features while all the while trying to guess what new features would come out. The launch began just past 1AM Manila time. Mr. JK Shin, President and CEO and Head of IT and Mobile Communication Division of Samsung, announced the 3 devices that would be introduced: the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Samsung Galaxy Gear, and the Samsung Note 10.1, 2014 edition. Initial Features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Compared to Note 2 Physical dimensions of the Note 3 ...

Samsung's SideSync Makes Connectivity and Sharing between its ATIV PC and Smartphone Easy

Image
Convergence is the new digital sexy. And I got a taste of sexy when Samsung sat some of us down to a demo of SideSync , an application that bridges the gap between your Samsung Android smartphone and the Samsung ATIV PC. Basically it allows you to connect both devices to allow you to see on the PC the exact same screen you have on your smartphone, drag and drop files between both devices, and back up important items on your phone to the PC. This is a summary of SideSync's features. Phone Screen Sharing The exact same image of your smartphone is replicated on one part of your PC screen (in fact, it is intelligent enough to even detect the model of your smartphone; the phone image on the PC mirrors the look of your smartphone). You can resize the phone screen on the PC and drag it either to the left or right side of your PC screen to suit your working style. Flip your phone to landscape orientation and its mirror image on the PC does the same. Keybo...

Sneak Peak at a Samsung-driven Convergent Future Home at SM Appliance Center

Image
Can you imagine a future home where you can control just about any home appliance remotely, wirelessly or from another gadget/appliance? That is not far off. In fact, it is already HERE! I was able to see for myself the real possibilities of a truly wired and connected home when I visited the SM Appliance Center at SM Makati where the S-Path , the epitome of a Samsung Convergent ecosystem, was unveiled. Samsung has really been leading the pack in the convergence arena and it will not be long before this will become de facto. Most gadgets and appliances will be "talking" to each other and data/photos will be flying to your family and friends even before they get to see you in person. You can monitor your home remotely, turn appliances on and off before you get home, print documents wirelessly and more. It has already began as we saw with some of Samsung's appliances and devices. A mock-up of a real home was presented to us at S-Path. We walked through the home office...

The Price is Right with Samsung's Smart Choice Series Smartphones

Image
If you are like me, with at least 2 mobile phones and just as many telcos, you will want to check out Samsung's line of four (4) Smart Choice Series smartphones , all of which are dual sim . Not only can you now get your 2 mobile phone numbers into just one gadget but the price range is budget-friendly while still packing some pretty advanced features. At the most affordable end of the series is the Samsung Galaxy S Duos (priced at PhP 7,990). It runs on Android 4.1 Ice Cream Sandwich, has a built-in organizer, photo and video editor, and document viewer. It sports a 4.0" WVGA screen and runs on a 1 GHz single-core processor. A slot for a microSD card allows you to expand the phone's capacity up to 32GB. It sports a 5 MP rear camera and a VGA front camera. The battery is 1500 mAh. Galaxy S Duos, PhP 7,990

The Samsung NX300 Camera Makes You Shoot Fast, Share Faster

Image
Much as I love the digicam I have, my beef with it can be summarized in 2 ways: one, it lacks the ability to immediately share my shots on my social network sites and two, the lens will always have a distance disadvantage which makes me unable to zoom in without compromising clarity. Recently, Samsung introduced the Samsung NX300 smart camera - a great solution to just such a dilemma for social media people like me. This is a DSLR camera in a digital camera body. With its WIFI connectivity as well as an NFC (near field communication) feature, sharing on social networking sites is as easy as Point-Shoot-Share . And like a DSLR, it has interchangeable lenses! Globe's Postpaid Plans for the Samsung Galaxy S4

Image
Globe officially launched its Samsung Galaxy S4 today. At a press briefing, Peter Bithos, Globe's Senior Adviser for Consumer Business, and Debbie Obias, Head of Postpaid Acquisitions, bared the postpaid plans for the much-awaited smartphone. To know more about the smartphone's cool features, read my post "My firsthand experience with the new Samsung Galaxy S4" Globe said that My Super Plan got even better because this time, they are allowing the subscribers to customize their contract period (from 6-30 months) instead of fixed contract periods. The plans are bundled with peso value amounts that are almost double the value of the plans. Because of its flexibility feature, the My Super Plan lets that peso value amount be allocated among combinations of call, text and surfing services, consumable amount and gadgets.
