A Bonding Moment with a Sibling and Samsung's UHD Curved TV

I don't always get to meet my married sister. We are both busy with our individual families. Besides that, we live in opposite sides of town.

So when I had a chance to stay at Makati Shang for one night, she was the first person I called to ask if she had time to go on an overnight with me. She was free!

We began with a lunch at nearby Glorietta, then checked into the hotel a little past 4pm.

As soon as we entered the room, I got a very pleasant surprise. Not only did we have a king-sized bed and a fruit tray but the room was transformed into a mini home theater room!

My arm span isn't even enough to measure the width of this 78-inch screen!

We also had slim, upright floor speakers scattered all over the room, plus a sub-woofer.

One speaker + sub-woofer...

Three...

Four...
...and a 5th speaker in the middle of the TV

Blu-ray player and 2 pairs of 3D glasses

Either of these remote controls can help you navigate through the Samsung curved UHD TV
First thing my sister and I did was to browse through the available blu-ray movies available. I was actually wondering if I had to press the Left or Right buttons to let cursor move till I got to the movie I wanted. But surprise, surprise... the silver remote control (a Smart Touch Control) actually projects a laser light onto the screen of the TV and as I waved the remote around, the light would follow like a cursor. I just had to aim at my choice and press the remote's center button to select.

My sister was interested in watching World War Z. She can actually watch horror movies late at night and still get a good night's sleep. Me? I'd have nightmares. So as she was my guest, I insisted on choosing something more tame -- X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Haha!

I didn't quite expect what came next. As soon as fighting scenes in Wolverine began, the speakers all around me reverberated. Grabe, the whole room became sensurround! Since one speaker was right beside my side of the king-sized bed, I could hear every shot fired as well as other ambient sounds like a helicopter and vehicles...all around. Good thing I did not agree to the zombie movie. It would have scared the hell out of me.

After Wolverine, we also watched The Last Reef and other travel documentaries. The scenes really come alive on a 78-inch screen! I walked around the sides of the TV set and could still watch without distortion.

Even from the side, I could watch with no distortion
Here is a video I took of The Last Reef's intro. Believe me, even if it looks good already as shot from my phone, it does not do justice to the vibrant colors when watching the actual scenes on the Samsung curved UHD TV.

Of course, I just had to test the Samsung smart TV's other multimedia and online features. Here are shots of some features I tested out.

Wow, news, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo, and web search!

How the Twitter sign-on screen looks

And the blogger-geek lady in me couldn't help but be curious how my blogs would look like in 78-inch glory. Wow, they looked ohhhhhhh-some!

This tech blog, blown up to 78-inch display

Anyone wanting a home theater system should really look into the Samsung Curved UHD TV. I know I won't be able to afford one any time soon but it's nice to dream.

The Samsung 78" Curved UHD TV retails at PhP 429,900.
